Friday 5: Scattergories
This week’s Friday 5, my favorite in a long time, is based on Scattergories.
- What random letter was generated by the online random-letter generator?
Y. Great.
- With what famous person, whose name begins with the letter in question #1, would you most like to be stuck on a desert island?
Why do I get the feeling the best I’m going to do is some Russian writer, chess-player, or head-of-state? Let’s see. Just off the top of my head, I can think of Yuri Andropof, Yadier Molina, Yannick Noah, Yiying Lu, and Yusef Islam, the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens. I think the choice is obvious. I hope Yiying likes to play backgammon.
- What food item, whose name begins with the letter in question #1, can always be found in your pantry?
Yellow mustard. I have been a mustard-disliker for most of my life, but Bobby Flay of all people had me rethinking it. I love it as an ingredient and lately, I even enjoy it as a condiment.
- What song, whose title begins with the letter in question #1, always makes you feel good?
Boy do I want to say “Yesterday” here, just because it feels so good to be so miserable, but I think I’ll go with U2′s “Yahweh” from How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.
- What is your least-favorite film whose title begins with the letter in question #1?
My IMDb list isn’t complete, but it’s a good place to start, and it says that these are the films I’ve seen whose titles begin with Y. It’s not very many, so I guess that makes it easy to choose Y tu Mama Tambien, which had its positives but was overall not a very good film.
- What unusual animal, whose name begins with the letter in question #1, would be a fun pet?
Well, a yak, of course. A yak is a fun animal just because it’s called a yak, and it would be fun to say, “Oh, say hi to my pet yak.” Definitely. Yak.
