Some of the best commercials on the radio and tube are Kaiser Permanente’s latest. One of them really inspired me. It’s the one where a guy gets up and goes running. The music is Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a-Changing.” It closes with “Be Your Own Cause.”

Terrific ad. That song never fails to fire me up (it’s one of the songs I keep at the ready in case anyone ever asks me to play something), which is the point, of course. Fired up about being my own cause.

Definitely something to think about.

So I’ve thought about it, and I have a little plan. It’s a secret plan, though, as these things necessarily must often be. I guess I’ll get into some of the specifics later. I mention it now only because it’s part one of my summer goals, which I’ll articulate later. It’s too late and I’m too tired to do it now.

Check it out. Not only did I break 400 for the second time, but I beat my opponent by 200. That’s a first. [edit: Ooops, make that a second!] Usually, if you get many more than a hundred points between you and your opponent, the opponent resigns and leaves in a hasty huff. This game was kinda fun, because I got unreal letters and my opponent got lousy letters, so we sorta laughed together.

I’ve been on the receiving end of many such drubbings, so I didn’t feel too bad.

So I’m looking to play against people I know. I’ve been working this game for almost ten years (actually, it’s more like eight), so if you wanna play me (even if you’re someone I don’t know but you read this space for some reason), email me or send me a Yahoo! IM and maybe we can chat and play. The Yahoo! IM ID is _scrivener_ with the underscores. If you’d rather play Yahoo! Backgammon or Wordspell, I could go for that, too.

If you haven’t checked out Flock, a new web-browser, check it out. It’s quite nifty, especially if you either keep an online journal or photos at Flickr or Photobucket. It’s got a built-in photo-browser. You set in your preferences whether you want Flickr or Photobucket, and then select to view the photo-browser in your toolbar. You can type a user name in the user window, or you can type a tag in the tag window, or you can type a user name and a tag.

Here’s a screenshot showing me typing this entry while looking at photos with “shaveice” in the tag window. Also, you can see that, as a Mozilla-based browser, it’s got tabbed browsing (I’m showing here tabs with this screen, a Google search for that Kaiser ad, and the HawaiiThreads post that turned up in that Google search).

I’m battling major depression these past few days. Gotta get through this.

Meetings Tuesday and Wednesday, and then I’m mostly free until summer school begins.
