Friday 5: Getaways
From the good folks at Friday5.org:
- What’s something that recently got away?
Oh, I know it’s a boring answer, but I have to go with R. - Where do you go when you need to get away?
It used to be the arcade, especially an arcade where I wouldn’t run into students (current or former), but while I haven’t outgrown coin-op games, I am simply not interested in any of the games I’ve seen in the past five years or so. When I can, I go to Hilo. When I can’t, I go for a drive. When I can’t drive, I go for a walk with the iPod. - What’s your getaway line when someone’s giving you unwelcome attention?
“I’m so sorry; I have to get to work or I’ll be in big trouble.” It’s usually true. - What’s something you recently got away with?
Unbelievably, I got away with doing no laundry last weekend. Spirit Week meant getting to wear clothes I don’t normally wear, so most days I wore clean clothes. Others, I recycled inoffensive clothes from the week before. But now I really have to get some laundry done. Probably three loads. Good thing Monday’s a holiday. - Who’s got a way of making you smile even when you think you don’t want to?
I spend a lot of time online, of course, so the first people who come to mind are people I know online. Ryan makes me laugh out loud more often than anyone when he’s in a good mood (but it’s been a while!). Lavagal and Madazza at HT crack me up on a regular basis. The students in my second-period class (yearbook) at school are maybe the only ones who can intentionally make me smile when they know I don’t want to. And this is the course my principal wanted me to give up? I hate to think where I’d be this semester without them.
