Friday 5: Shape of Things to Come

From here.

  1. What shape is your mood today?
Heart-shaped. I have an intense day of work ahead of me, but then it’s the Everclear / Fastball / Vertical Horizon concert this evening, and my high school reunion tomorrow night. It’s going to be exhausting, but then I get to come to work Monday and Tuesday is a holiday. Should be a nice five days coming up.
  2. What snack comes in a fun shape?
Goldfish crackers have to be number one, right? Why does a cheddar-flavored cracker come in the shape of goldfish? Was that an arbitrary decision? It doesn’t make any sense. But they are a really fun shape, not to mention a great snack. I don’t think I had my first goldfish cracker until my frosh year of college, but I was sorta aware of them because they’re mentioned in Judy Blume’s Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, which I read ten million times between fourth grade and the end of high school.
  3. Someone’s building your dream house, but it has to be in the shape of a letter of the alphabet.  Which letter do you choose?
Oh, of course I want an O-shaped house! You can have a nice grassy area in the middle (or a pool?), encircled by a roller-skating track, a walking track, and maybe a bike track. Come on! How fun would that be? A roller-skating track right in your house, with all the inner doors opened out to the hole in the middle? Let’s build it.
  4. What’s a great song with a shape in its title or lyrics?*
The Choir has a great song called “(You Do That) Triangle” (from the Diamonds and Rain album, 1986). It’s sung from the point of view of a kid who watches some grownup in his life (not a father) “do that triangle.”

I love you like a brother; should I treat you like a guest?
I may be ten years old but I can tell that you’re obsessed
I would keep it to myself but now the rug is showing wear
So forgive me if I stare.

    You do that triangle
    You do that triangle
You do that triangle in my house

We prayed for you in Sunday school and Lauri’s rabbit too
They gave it shots to numb the pain it made me think of you
Sometimes Daddy has a six-pack but you always have a pair
So forgive me if I care

    You do that triangle
    You do that triangle
You do that triangle in my house

From the cooler to the chair to the garbage can
From the cooler to the chair to the garbage can
From the cooler to the chair to the garbage can
From the cooler to the chair to the garbage can

    You do that triangle
    You do that triangle
You do that triangle in my house (in my house)
    You do that triangle
    You do that triangle
You do that triangle in my house (in my house)
    You do that triangle
    You do that triangle

  5. What’s something in your line of sight that can reasonably be called blob-shaped?
I can sorta see my bed linens from here, all wadded up in a sort-of ball on my bed, waiting to be put properly on the mattress.
